First Session

  • After an intake meeting, we will have a first session
  • We prefer to work alone with your child at first but understand this is not always possible
  • If your child wishes, you may join us in the playroom
  • Free play allows us to get to know each other
  • Session lengths last about forty-five minutes
  • Always share any new information or updates about your child since our last appointment
  • Please be sure to note any changes in medication

Second & Third Sessions

  • We prefer to work alone with your child when possible
  • We observe how and what your child plays
  • We will begin to form a  therapeutic relationship
  • We may ask to contact teachers or other important individual involved in your child's life
  • Always share any new information or updates about your child since our last appointment
  • Please be sure to note any changes in medication

Third & Ongoing Sessions

  • We will have a better idea how long therapy will last
  • Some children may improve faster than expected
  • More serious problems may take longer to resolve
  • By the third or fourth appointment we’ll present you with a treatment plan
  • Always share any new information or updates about your child since our last appointment
  • Please be sure to note any changes in medication

The Last Session

  • As children become comfortable and begin to feel better, it may signal time to end therapy
  • We want children to see the end of therapy as a sign of their success
  • Maintain confidence in your child’s ability to be happy and healthy, and  convey that confidence to your child
  • With everyone’s efforts, the end of therapy can be a joyful celebration of your child’s gains
